ALTERNATIVE HEALTH CARE

Alternative and complimentary therapy is widely popular in Australia and there are a range of clinics and services available.

Complementary medicine, including herbal medicine, is regulated by the Office of Complementary Medicines, which is part of the Commonwealth Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Practitioners are monitored and regulated by the state governments although Victoria is the only state with formal regulations and registration.

Professional associations provide self regulation and can help people choose a reputable practitioner. Therapists are also listed in the Yellow Pages telephone directory.

WHAT THE LOCALS SAY
You don't need to be sick to indulge in a therapeutic massage. I try to go a least once a month. It's a bit like going to the hairdresser to get pampered, only much more indulgent.
