RELOCATING PLANTS
Few removalists will move plants so it's better to transport them in your own car. If you are relocating from overseas, it is best to leave your plants with a trusted friend as Australian quarantine laws will not allow you to bring house plants into the country.
Indoor and potted plants should be pruned a couple of weeks before you move so that they can be packed easily. Then a week before you move, place your plants with a flea collar in a black plastic bag in a cool area overnight. This will kill any pests.
Place your plants in cardboard boxes the day before you move. Hold them in place and cushion the leaves with damp newspaper. Lightly cover the plants with a final layer of damp newspaper.
On move day, close the boxes and punch air holes in the top. When you arrive at your new address, unpack your plants as soon as you can. Remove your plants through the bottom of the box to avoid breaking the stem, and avoid exposing your plants to lots of sunlight at first.
