PAY TV

There are three main pay TV service providers in Australia: Foxtel (Telstra), Optus and Austar. Services are provided through cable or satellite, depending on your location.

Foxtel and Austar only provide digital television while Optus provides an analogue service.

Optus is not available in multi-dwelling complexes such as apartment buildings. Foxtel or Austar can be provided given the appropriate infrastructure (ie cable or satellite) is in place.

All providers sell channel packages with a variety of different channels and options for pay-per-view, generally for films or sports events. Many channels are syndicated across networks and imported from overseas although a few channels are exclusive to specific providers.

All three providers offer internet and phone services, and you can secure discounts by bundling a range of services from the same provider.

WHAT THE LOCALS SAY
It's pretty rare that I watch free-to-air TV these days. And I don't the kids even know what it is. Why would they, when they can watch cartoons whenever they want.
