DRIVING
If you are relocating to live permanently in the Northern Territory, you will need to apply for a Northern Territory drivers licence within 3 months of arrival.
To apply, visit a Customer Service Centre with your current drivers licence and another form of identification that also provides proof of your residential address in Darwin.
All international drivers will need to pass a written test of road laws and in some cases also a practical driving test.
If your foreign drivers licence is in a language other than English, you will need an authorised translation, which can be a consulate translation on official letterhead signed by the Consul-General and stamped with the official consulate stamp.
The main cause of road accidents in the Northern Territory is fatigue. It's very important to drink water frequently and to rest if tired. Also, it is advisable to have a large supply of drinking water in the car, particularly if you are travelling away from main population centres.
