DRIVING
If you are relocating to live permanently in Queensland, you will need to apply for a Queensland drivers licence within 3 months of arrival.
To apply, visit a Queensland Transport customer service centre with your current drivers licence and at least two other official forms of identification. At least one of these must show evidence of your residential address in Queensland.
All international drivers (except for New Zealand) will need to pass a written test of road laws and in some cases also a practical driving test.
If your foreign drivers licence is in a language other than English, you will need an authorised translation, which can be a consulate translation on official letterhead signed by the Consul-General and stamped with the official consulate stamp.
Third Party Insurance is compulsory for all vehicle owners. It provides unlimited liability for personal injury caused by, through or in connection with the use of the insured motor vehicle anywhere in Australia.
Throughout Australia, vehicles drive on the left of the road, seatbelts must be worn at all times and drivers must carry their licence. For specific information on road rules in Queensland, please refer to the Queensland Transport website. |
