BRISBANE EDUCATION

Children generally start school at 5 or 6 years old and schooling is compulsory up to 15 years old.

Government Schools do not charge fees for Australian residents, although there will be costs for uniforms, books and other school supplies. In most cases children can attend any state school, unless it has reached capacity, in which case you will need to live in the school's specific catchment area.

Private Schools tend to be affiliated with a church. They often have long waiting lists and fees vary considerably.

Parish Catholic Schools are common in most areas.

Kindergarten programmes are 2 to 3 days per week, between 9am- 2.30pm, Monday to Friday for children aged 3 - 5 years old.

Preschool programmes for children from 4 years old are provided at most schools and independently, both part time and full time between 9am - 3 pm.
