RENTING IN MELBOURNE

It's relatively easy to rent a good home in Melbourne although landlords prefer to offer leases for more than twelve months.

In the inner city, including the Inner South East and the Bayside suburbs, rents vary from around $300 - $600 per week for a one bedroom apartment to up to $700 - $3000 for a four bedroom house.

Prices tend to be less as you move further from the city with rents in the east being slightly more than the west overall.

The majority of rental properties are unfurnished. If you are not bringing furniture, then renting is an economical solution and there are many furniture rental companies in Melbourne.

We recommend you leave white goods, such as washing machines, and other electrical items at home, as most international appliances are not compatible in Australia. Rental, or inexpensive purchase is a better option.

People on overseas assignments may be entitled to tax concessions when renting. It is worth consulting an international tax accountant to advise you before you relocate.
