DRIVING

If you are relocating permanently to live in Western Australia, you will need to apply for a Western Australian drivers licence within 3 months of arrival.

To apply, visit a Licensing Centre with your current drivers licence and another form of identification that provides proof of your signature, your age, and your residential address in WA.

Some international drivers will need to pass a written test of road laws. In other cases you can transfer your license without a test.

If your foreign drivers licence is in a language other than English, you will need an authorised translation, which can be a consulate translation on official letterhead signed by the Consul-General and stamped with the official consulate stamp.

Throughout Australia, vehicles drive on the left of the road, seatbelts must be worn at all times and drivers must carry their licence. For specific information on road rules in WA, please refer to the Department for Planning and Infrastructure website.

WHAT THE LOCALS SAY
"The first thing to really hit me here was the calm, well-regulated traffic, which seemed to crawl at a snail's pace, and the well-behaved (mostly!) motorists."
